Treatment of Injured Employees

We have everything in the surgery to treat most injuries, unless the person needs an anaesthetic.

If they need, we can then admit them into the Mater Hospital for 3 days - either without permission out-of WorkCover hours, or with their permission during hours.

Our Practice specialises in quality medicals to accurately assess workers for potential problems that may cause injury at work.

Current standards for Mine medicals have been elevated by the introduction of specific testing of the back, limbs and knees and assessment of a worker's strength and agility to maintain exercise for work tasks.

This more comprehensive assessment which was introduced last year, as well as treatment and advice on rehabilitation, has reduced the rehabilitation and injury time at all Mackay Sugar Mills noticeably over past crushing seasons, and can be reviewed in their statistics.

Allowing for the precision of the medical, they are performed in a non-threatening manner, with advice given to any prospective employee that the reason for the thorough assessment is to ensure that they do not injure themselves or put other people working with them at risk.

Testing urine - for routine sugar, blood and protein; some people need an additional drug test. These drug tests are NOT part of the routine Coal Board Medical and are performed at additional cost when requested.
